Once an individual’s referral is received by Strongest Families Institute, they can expect to be contacted within 24-48 hours. They will be asked to complete a questionnaire and once the questionnaire is completed it is reviewed for SFI program acceptability. If accepted, a consent call will be scheduled to obtain verbal telephone consent with the parent/individual (parents have an option to complete consent online) link to consent. Once verbal consent for intervention is obtained, the family/individual will be assigned a primary coach and an intervention package sent (for those who select online intervention they will receive an email for login instructions). Most programs consist of about 9-12 skills learned in weekly telephone sessions, with a booster session post-intervention to encourage long-term skill implementation to prevent recurrence of the problem. However, depending on learning needs and the demands of usual family life, intervention timelines can be modified to meet individual needs.

Parents become the “at home coach” when participating in the child/youth anxiety programs. The coach works with both the child and the parent, guiding the parent on how to teach their child Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) based skills, work on a plan, and track their worry and improvement.

It is important to note that Strongest Families Institute is not a counseling service, we teach evidence-based skills to help individuals overcome mild to moderate mental health issues impacting health and well being. Learning new skills takes time and commitment, that is why we provide our program in a step-by-step manner, the time and dedication our clients put in pays off in success!

SFI programs are delivered via one on one coaching sessions, or a group option is available for the behavior, youth and adult anxiety, and nighttime bedwetting programs.
