Kiersten came to the Strongest Families Institute (SFI) at just 13 years old. She was overwhelmed by performance anxiety, constantly worried about schoolwork, presentations, and social situations. She experienced frequent panic attacks, physical symptoms like stomach aches, and withdrew from activities she once loved, including curling. Her anxiety was so severe that she avoided friends, feared leaving the house, and felt she couldn’t talk to anyone. Kiersten’s mental health deteriorated to the point of self-harm and thoughts of suicide, leaving her mom terrified she might lose her.
Today, Kiersten is thriving. Now 16, she competes on a junior curling team and has even represented her province at Nationals. She confidently speaks in public, including travelling to Toronto to speak on a national youth panel for mental health, and has become a passionate advocate for youth seeking help. Kiersten has rediscovered joy, rebuilt friendships, and is fully engaged in life.
Her mom credits SFI for the life-changing and life-saving support they received. Kiersten’s journey is a powerful testament to the impact of timely mental health intervention.
