International Day of Awesomeness: The Power of Positive Thinking

On this International Day of Awesomeness, we want to remind you how awesome you truly are!

Sometimes, it can be hard to remember how awesome we are when life gets busy or overwhelming. During these times, it is important to remember to pause and reflect on the qualities or actions that make you special. If you find it hard to recognize your awesomeness today, or any day, we have some tips for you!

Find a positive affirmation that works for you

A positive affirmation is a word or phrase that resonates with you in a positive way! Starting your morning with a positive affirmation can help you get in the right mindset for the day. If you feel like you are falling off track, repeating the affirmation throughout the day can bring you comfort and confidence. Examples of positive affirmations include:

  • “I am doing my best, and that is okay”
  • “I believe in myself”
  • “I am capable”
  • “I am awesome”

Notice the good

When it feels like things might not be going the way you had hoped, it is important to notice the good. It can be helpful to take a pen and paper and focus on the things that are going right. First, try to write down 1-2 positive things. Then, aim for 3-5. Eventually, it will be easier for you to notice the good and you can aim for a list of as many positive things going on in your life you like. Help reframe your thinking by focusing on the great things you do each day.

  • “I did well at…”
  • “I am proud of myself for…”
  • “I helped a friend today do…”
  • “I completed or took steps to…”

Turn negative self-talk into positive self-talk

If you notice yourself thinking about yourself or a situation negatively (negative self-talk, stop and take a moment to ask yourself, “how can I think about this differently?” in order to change your mindset and approach challenges more positively.

For example, instead of thinking, “I just can’t seem to do anything right today!” try rephrasing it into, “I have been trying my best today, what should I try to do differently?”

The more you practice identifying your negative self-talk and rephrasing it into positive self-talk, the easier and more natural it will become!

Talk to someone you trust

When it comes to positive thinking, sometimes what we need the most is a helping hand. Talking to someone you trust can help put your experiences into perspective. When we find that we are being hard on ourselves, a friend or a family member may be able to help us refocus on the positive aspects of who we are that matter the most.

We hope these tips will help you master the power of positive thinking! It may take some time to get used to but making these small changes every day will help you get there.
