About Us

We Focus on What Works

Strongest Families Institute (SFI) is grounded in over 25 years of social science research. Our 100% FREE mental health services are available for children/youth, adults, and their families in both English and French.

When and where you need it.

How does it work?

You can self-refer if you’re an active member of the RCMP, an active Canadian Military member, or a military veteran or military family member, or live in: Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Prince Edward Island, the Yukon, or Northern Saskatchewan.

You can get a referral from a healthcare partner if you live in Alberta, Nova Scotia, or Ontario.

After completing an intake online or by phone to help us understand your needs, you’ll speak with a Client Care Support team member who will explain the available supports and help you select a coaching schedule and style that fits your needs.

You might choose one-on-one support with you and your family, or group coaching with families experiencing similar challenges.

We offer stepped care, which means you get the support you need when you need it, and how much you need of it, instead of a rigid routine that doesn’t fit into your daily life.

Our support is evidence-based, which means it is grounded in decades of research on what actually works for families like yours.

The Strongest Families Institute (SFI) began as a research program by the Centre for Research in Family Health at the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

That’s why families who have been through our programs told us:
